Priories of Western United States and San Francisco Area Investiture

Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, San Jose CA

Date(s) - October 22,2021 - October 23,2021
12:00 am

We have been hard at work preparing for the joint-Prior Investiture on October 23 in San Jose California.  Enclosed is information about the upcoming activities for October 22 and 23.

It’s been a long time coming for many of our Aspirants with the delay in the May 2020 Investiture, but thankfully we are rescheduled and we look forward to the Investiture ahead. In addition, this Investiture will include dubbing of Dame members.  We will be sending out a more personal note/request to Dames of the Commanderies within the Priories (SF and Western) confirming their desire to be dubbed. Deputy Prior Caroline Macnab will be taking the lead to coordinate on behalf of the Dames, making this more personal and can then field any questions directly with the Dame. Any Dames outside of the Priory (SF and Western) that wishes to be dubbed, will be directed to Deputy Prior Caroline Macnab, DJSJ who will be coordinating on behalf of the Dames.

Given the number of Aspirants ±15, plus potential for a sizable number of Dames to be dubbed, we are attempting to manage the Investiture to around an hour and forty-five minutes, this lengthy ceremony service seems unavoidable.

In the regular mail you will also be receiving formal invitations for the upcoming Investiture celebration on October 22, 23 in San Jose, California. In the meantime, below you will find information of the Investiture weekend schedule and a fillable form for registering yourself and your guests. This can be done via email with our Receiver General Chevalier Dick Conniff, KJSJ

There will be an Aspirant Lunch Friday Oct 22 11:00am at the Silicon Valley Capital Club where the Sponsors will introduce the Aspirants. Immediately following and across the street will be a rehearsal for the Investiture ceremony at The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph starting at 2:00pm.

There is a Welcome Reception at the Silicon Valley Capital Club Friday evening October 22 6:00pm where we will be welcoming the Aspirants with a little celebration.

On Saturday October 23 at 11:30am the Investiture is being held The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. There will be a short break in between and we’ll resume at 5:30pm that evening for the Cocktail Reception and Gala Dinner at the San Jose Museum of Art, this too is walking distance from the San Jose Marriott hotel.

We have made special pricing arrangements at the San Jose Marriott with a room rate of $129, Please utilize this link to make your reservation if you plan on staying at the Marriott.

A special rate for Jr. Suites is also available, call 1 800-314-0928 indicating you are with the Sovereign Order of St. John.

We are also looking on finalizing an after-event tour and barrel tasting starting at around 2pm with a sit down cheese and wine pairing in Cellar 1 at the Testarossa winery. This historic working winery was originally built by the Jesuits and is a wonderful local setting for Sunday afternoon.  We’ll share more information as soon as we are able.

While we’re trying to put Covid behind us, the welfare and safety of our Aspirants, Members and guests is paramount. With regard to Covid, we are all monitoring the current health agency directives, consistent with California state guidelines and County of Santa Clara Public Health and at this time the recommendation is that all attending who are not vaccinated must wear a mask when attending inside events. Persons who are vaccinated have the option whether or not to wear a mask (this is subject to change). We are also working closely with each venue to ensure they will be in compliance with health directives and will continue to monitor the state and local guidelines and make updates to stated guidelines as the conditions determine.

Thanks again for the assistance and looking forward to seeing everyone soon to celebrate our new Aspirants.

Yours in St. John,

H E Bailiff Prior Brian Rauschhuber, GCSJ 408-406-3446 & Prior William Buchanan, KJSJ 415-823-2151
